10 Questions: Round 2

Back in august I ran a blog post collecting some recent questions asked by the fans of the Sony Mobile facebook page, providing some responses in an FAQ form. With the recent release of the Xperia T, the up and coming release of the Xperia J, a handful of regional variations and some kick ass accessories, I wanted to revisit the segment and answer some more recent questions.

So without further ado, let round 2 commence!

Have the Xperia J, V and T replaced the P, U and S or are are they all going to still be sold alongside each other in stores?
The way I understand this is that the J, V and T are a brand new product line, closely related to the 2011 series. The P, U and S are still current phones, and with the S being given a new lease of life in the shape of the Xperia SL, there's still plenty of life in the series yet. Consider this a second product line.

Am loving my Xperia T... is there any news on when we might expect the Jellybean upgrade for it?
There have been rumours of Sony testing 4.2 on the Xperia S, though this is thought not to be android 4.2, but a unfortunately numbered beta version of Sony's own android customisations. Whilst this may be the case, it's comforting to know that new software is on the horizon and therefore it should only be a matter of time before we begin to see jellybeans filling up our screens.

Hello, I've got a problem with my Sony Xperia S. I tried to switch it on but only the T-mobile start up screen came up. It froze, and then none of the butons would work. I can't even switch it off! What's wrong with the phone? Please help. thank you.
It may be rather alarming at first when your last resort, to remove the battery is no longer possible, but rest assured. There is still a last resort, but this time in the form of a cold boot. To do this, hold down the power and volume down keys. After a few seconds you should feel a vibration, signalling the device is now rebooting and to let go of the keys.

How do I use my [smart] tags? I love my phone, but know there is so much more I can do but dont know how. Please help.
Used correctly, smart tags have huge potential to change the way you use your phone. Xperia phones normally come preinstalled with LiveWare manager, and a widget to set up and configure smart tags. All you need to do is enable NFC and scan your first smart tag to be taken to the smart tag setup. It's worth noting that there are other NFC applications out there, so you may find enhanced features through third parties.

Will the Xperia P (Sony LT22i) get the jelly bean update? If yes then when will we have a chance to update it?
From past experience, Xperia devices normally see two to three versions of android. The Xperia P was released on Gingerbread, however recently updated to Ice Cream Sandwhich. Jellybean has been available on certain android devices for some months now and the P still isn't an 'old' phone, so it's highly likely. Whilst there's been no official word as yet, it would suprise me if Jellybean wasn't made available for the U, P and S over the coming months.

Hey Sony! I love my Xperia S but the battery isn't lasting as long as I need it to. Any ideas on how I get a new internal battery with more than 1700mah installed without voiding the warranty?
Unfortunately due to the decision to make the battery inaccessible for some devices, it isn't possible to replace them with more powerful batteries. However, I have found the battery life pleasant on the Xperia S, so I would recommend taking a look at the phone setup itself. ICS contains a battery management option so it's always worth checking there to see what is using most power. Check your screen brightness, app sync settings, running apps, etc. I could run a whole blog post on this. One day, maybe...

Just bought the new Xperia T which is a great phone, but trying to buy a phone case for it is proving difficult. Can you help? Thanks in advance.
As with all accessories for all phones, they start out with very few, but over time more and more enter the market so it's just a case of keeping an active lookout. There very well may be more now than there were yesterday, particularly with the T being such a recent device. Here are some I've found:

Where can I find a detailed specifications list of all xperia phones? I would like to compare them all to see which is best for me.
http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/products/phones/ This page contains a list of all Xperia phones. Clicking into each, you should find a specifications link on the top right corner.

Dear Sony, you keep creating Xperia A, B, C, etc, but no new applications for the 2011 Xperia phones like album, walkman, earth live wallpaper, etc. You've just dropped the Sony Ericsson range which is awful.
I don't think, if the 2011 range was dropped, they would currently be transitioning to Ice Cream Sandwhich. It needs to be remembered that technology progresses very fast. Things that are possible now weren't possible back in Q1 2011 when the flagship Sony Ericsson phone (the arc) was first announced. Hardware is capable of so much more now which current models are taking advantage of, but not all of these can be as successful on the older phones. I have an Xperia arc S, which even just with the Ice Cream Sandwhich update has a notable strain on performance, so I for one am glad I dont have a large amount of additional applications draining performance.

My Xperia arc wont let me update any apps due to the small space on phone memory. What can I do?
A great feature in Ice Cream Sandwhich is the ability to pinpoint exactly where data is being consumed. From the launcher, access Settings then Storage to see a breakdown of internal and SD storage, free space, and what formats are using how much space (i.e. images, apps, etc). Tapping on something like Pictures, Audio, Downloads, etc. Will present you with the culprits, whilst for apps you will need to go back to settings, then apps. Wait for a few minutes whilst your phone calculates storage, then press the menu button, and Sort by Size.
